The building that served as the former home of Manual and Wood high schools will be the temporary home of the new Purdue Polytechnic High School in Indianapolis. The Union 525 will house the school during the 2017-2018 academic year while renovation work on the school’s permanent home continues.

Purdue announced in October the STEM-focused charter school will be located in the PR Mallory building on the east side of Indianapolis. A time frame for the completion of renovations to the abandoned complex was not given.

Purdue says Union 525 is a perfect fit for PPHS as it already houses tech companies and its downtown Indianapolis location is close to the school’s industry partners. 

"This will be a tremendous location for us to begin our exciting work," said Scott Bess, head of the Polytechnic High School. "We were able to find a downtown site that meets all of our needs and that has such a rich history in preparing students through technical and STEM-related education."

The application period for PPHS closed earlier this month and Purdue says the number of applications outpaced the 150 available slots. School officials expect to have final enrollment information for the inaugural freshman class compiled by late spring.
